Hair dresser to hair artist…?

Journal snipers since 2010 I get this question a lot how come u choose to be A hair dresser? Hmm , to think back I think my grandma was a fortune teller she would always curse me u will become a NAI( barber ) or FOOD VENDOR just because I would neither eat well nor cut my hair for months. Who knew it would be blessing in disguise untill 2 years of being a hair dresser . Like many folks , was very unsure about what to pursue! As a kid I had a busier theee definition of what I don’t see myself as; 1) anything that need a entrance exam I don’t wanna prove to any oldie , I m capable of being there 2) anyplace that needs me to tuck in my shirt isn’t for me ! Bro it’s gets ugly everytime I stand or sit !( just in me )😅 3) I don’t wanna sit on one desk one laptop or be with same group of people every day I don’t think I choose hairdressing , hair dressing choose me coz it all started with a suggestion from an uncle *who loves his own long hair! Taking his advise I enrolled myself into a diploma from KAPILS SALON AND ACADEMY ! I gained technical knowledge but I think I learned most of it practising over clients for the next one year in the salon ! (Many were failed experiments) 🥲 Still over a year I could do decent hair jobs I don’t think I considered myself as an artist yet! Makes sense for one whose art project were done by mother in school how he can get crafty all of a sudden and cut visually and create a shape which looks different in every hair! It all changed when I met my mentors in my next job at JEAN CLAUDE BIGUINE, these two took me under their belt and let me visualise hair dressing through their eyes ! These legends ho by COROLE ROBEQUIN AND MICHEL BALTAZAR and many names that have pushed my clay into a shape that I’m today One day don’t remember the exact date while cutting someone’s hair I realised a guy whole dosent like socialising , speaking to other beings or cannot speak to other to be precise is having an hour ping conversation with just met being and sharing Radom stories of world and looking forward to next one 🤓 and on another side of my brain cell I wasn’t thinking what I’m doing it was happening in it own ! The hair was being cut , my hands were cutting it , the brain knew what is gonna happen , heart was beating normal, the fear was in lack of passion but passion was only be there 100%! That day I realised I have become a hair dresser yet to be an artist coz after 10000 hours BEETLES theory got me going I can do it! Towards the next journey hair dressing took me to places , meet people , do great hair yet there’s a vaccum between current self and an artist! Now, looking back! I don’t think I choose hairdressing , hairdressing choose me! Yet to be Artist so continue with me in this journey to see if I end up being one or I pass the torch to another and he/she becomes one!
